Despite what you may have heard, instruments are not strung with Cat Gut. Neither are tennis rackets. They never have been Sheep Gut. Sure, but not cat. Can you imagine the logistics? The myth originates on purpose in a little town called Salle in the Abruzzo region in Italy, which is un coincidentally the ancestral home of the D'Addario string company.
Medieval violin makers rightly assumed that if they told people they sourced their strings from cats, they'd be less likely to copy their invention. Tennis rackets, not so sure.
